Carlos Donjuan, born in San Luis Potosí, Mexico in 1982, moved to Dallas, Texas at age 3. From a young age, he developed a passion for drawing cartoons, Lowrider cars, and comic book characters, later discovering graffiti and mural art during middle and high school. His high school art teacher, Mr. Filberto Chapa, inspired him to delve deeper into traditional art techniques and history. Donjuan earned his BFA from The University of Texas at Arlington, studying under Marilyn Jolly, and later his MFA from The University of Texas at San Antonio, where professors Ken Little and Ricardo Armendariz helped him refine his conceptual approach. Now a professor at UT, Donjuan has exhibited nationally and internationally, with his work included in the renowned Cheech Marin Collection. He remains active in mural art through the Sour Grapes collective, mentoring at-risk youth and giving back to his community. His neighborhood continues to influence and inspire his work.
