Ellie Omiya, born in 1975 in Osaka, graduated from the University of Tokyo in Pharmaceutical Sciences. After working in advertising, she gained popularity with her essays on daily life and expanded her career as a radio personality, TV host, screenwriter, and director. In 2012, she began painting during her live drawing “Celebration Melody: Naoshima” and held her first solo exhibition, “Emotional Journey,” in 2015. Her exhibitions, like “Sincerely Yours” at Towada Modern Art Center, often involve viewer participation and interactive spaces. Omiya’s vibrant works, depicting flowers, trees, and landscapes, overflow with life and emotion, inviting the viewer into an active, sensory experience. She frequently performs live paintings with music, describing her work as evolving stories that evoke sensations of places, lights, sounds, and scents.
