Lives and works in Tokyo. Yohei Takahashi creates mainly two-dimensional works including murals, tableaux, and live paintings. His works are based on scenes he encountered during his walks. He is unique in that he paints organically, using a unique tactile technique that he developed in the process of creating murals. He is the organizer of “Wallternatives,” a project for experimental mural painting in which many muralists participate. His practice encompasses a wide range of two-dimensional media, including canvas works, murals and live painting. He captures dynamic motifs such as plants and animals swaying in the wind, bonfires, and ripples in a fresh and unsettled way, retaining the beauty of abstraction in his short-sighted compositions.
