Jordan Casteel (b. 1989, Denver, CO) is a celebrated American painter known for her vibrant, large-scale portraits that depict the everyday lives of Black individuals, focusing on intimacy, community, and representation. She received her BA in Studio Art from Agnes Scott College (2011) and an MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Yale School of Art (2014). Casteel has held solo exhibitions at prestigious venues like the New Museum in New York (2020) and the Denver Art Museum (2019), among others. Her public art projects include a 1,400-square-foot mural commissioned by High Line Art in New York. Casteel’s works have been exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA, and other major institutions. In 2021, she was awarded the MacArthur Foundation Fellowship for her contributions to contemporary art
