Eliav explores the link between image and imagination in his paintings, questioning what it means to “see” and “know.” Engaging with sources from 14th-century Italian art to synthetic imagery, he examines the transformation of an image through the act of painting. His work is often presented as poetic installations, including solo exhibitions at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art (2011), Israel Museum, Jerusalem (2018), and Building Gallery, Milan (2020). Other notable shows include the Givon Gallery, Suzanne Tarasieve Gallery, and Braverman Gallery, as well as group exhibitions at institutions such as the Haifa Museum of Art, Liverpool Biennial, Fondazione Giorgio Cini, and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. Awards include the Ministry of Culture Award (2017), the Rappaport Prize (2010), and the Cité Internationale des Arts residency (2013, Paris). His works are part of major collections worldwide, including the National Gallery of Art, Washington; Israel Museum, Jerusalem; and Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin. Eliav holds a BFA (2005) and MFA (2009) from Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem, and teaches at Shenkar College, Beit Berl College, and SKMB.
